This short course focuses on the language commonly found in dissertations. The first 45 – 60 minutes will be spent understanding how language is used in key sections and identifying this language in use. There will be opportunities for you to consider how to apply such language in your own dissertation. The second 45 – 60 minutes will be spent as a workshop or used as tutorial time for you to discuss any queries you may have.
The course focus is as follows but this may change slightly dependent on student needs:
• Session 1: Overview, language of introductions
• Session 2: Language of literature reviews and methodologies
• Session 3: Language of results, discussion and conclusions
• Session 4: Language of abstracts, consolidation.
